The Florida State Police have announced an investigation into the shooting death of a Florida police officer.
State Police Sgt. James Cone was fatally shot by a suspect during an ambush attempt on a Miami-Dade police car in February.
The suspect, Michael A. Williams, was arrested Monday.
State police said Monday that Williams is a member of the Florida National Guard and that he is being charged with murder.
State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle has ordered the investigation into Williams.
She said the shooting was an ambush and there was no reason to believe Williams had any intention of hurting the officers.
A national search was launched by the FBI in late March for Williams.
A Florida police spokeswoman confirmed Monday that an agent was in Florida on a federal search warrant for Williams, but did not say if she had any information about him.
